Read this. Do it NOW.

Today is Kristin McQueen’s birthday.  She turns 33.
This year, I turn 33.
Kristin does marathons.
I do marathons.
Kristin does Ironman.
Well, I’ve trained for Ironman. (LOL)

Here’s the part where the similarities become REALLY weird: Kristin has thyroid cancer.  JUST LIKE ME.

Just like me, Kristin has faced many issues outside her thyroid cancer.  She’s even had like 7 or 8 surgeries now.  But she has raised over $100,000 for the American Cancer Society.

She is my HERO.

And she is one of the few people I know who is one of us crazy athletic people AND a survivor of the same kind of cancer as me.  I read this and felt 1)a little less alone in the world and 2)completely inspired.  If she’s had multiple brain surgeries and still did Ironman, I don’t think anyone can say they have an excuse.

More than that, her story exemplifies a problem faced by many cancer patients. As it says at http://www.giveforward.com/mcqueen: “When your salary makes you ineligible for financial assistance programs, but you don't get to work to actually take home your salary… what do you do?”

Set up that website, said her friends.

I will be helping.

She.  Is.  Amazing.

Meggan Ann,

Thank you for sharing this with your readers.

It's amazing how many similarities you and Kristin have in common. (I wish for both of you that that weren't true.)

I initially became involved with the American Cancer Society DetermiNation program because my sister was battling thyroid cancer (she's still going strong 20+ years later!), and that's how I first met Kristin. She inspires me every day. Now that I know another person who has undergone much of what she has, I have another inspiration.

Thanks again. SUCK IT, CANCER!
